[[ARTICLES]] Selma Blair and Molly Shannon Go For The Laughs!

"Saturday Night Live" alum Molly Shannon plays a foxy, 40-something and 'Hellboy' star Selma Blair plays her self-absorbed daughter, who share a love-hate, push-pull dysfunctional relationship that only a mother and daughter can have in NBC's new comedy "Kath & Kim."

"My character's really in a state of arrested development, which I see all the time," Selma says, describing Kim. "People don't want to grow up, so it's part of the humor that my character could be 20, she could be 30, she could be 40, and she's in her clothes from when she was in seventh grade and thinks that that's hot. We see it all the time. We see it in the tabloids, people not dressing their ages. And my character loves that and looks up to those people."

The series is based on the hit Australian show of the same name, and, surprisingly, Molly says a friend had sent her the Aussie version even before she knew NBC was adapting it. So when the role came up, she was up for playing the ultra-feminine Kath.

"I really love doing characters," she says. "I prefer that to playing close to myself. It just feels more fun to me and freeing. I could really relate to the dysfunctional family. I liked that my character Kath is positive, strong. She's spent her whole life raising her daughter, and now she's got the daughter out of the house and she wants to move on, focus on herself and her dating life and her figure and her diet, and she's ready to go for it, but the daughter moves back in!"

"Kath & Kim" premieres Thursday, October 9 at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.

[[NEWS]] Selma Blair claims Americans are 'deluded'

Selma Blair has hit out at her fellow Americans, describing them as "deluded" for their "obsession" with celebrities.

The actress revealed that she is enjoying taking on the role of a celebrity worshipper on her new TV show Kath & Kim, which is being adapted from the Australian sitcom of the same name.

Discussing her character Kim, she asked: "You don't think there are some deluded Americans? Hey, how about all of us! Everyone here is obsessed with tabloid celebrities and their lives and wanting to be like that, just like Kim.

"In America you have the people who watch the Lohans' reality show and want to be like Dina and Ali Lohan and live in a house with a throne in it. Everywhere! They're just everywhere!"

IS THE FASHION WORLD SOMETHING YOU'RE INTERESTED IN?
I've always loved fashion, and in the past year i've kind of strayed from it. I've stuck to a uniform of wearing the same white shirt and blue jeans. I've just kind of let myself go in the past year.

WHY'S THAT?
I've been traumatized or something ever since I came back from Budapest, and just haven't felt the same. I hope I get it back. Some things happened in the past year and I just haven't been inspired by anything.

PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY?
Personally AND professionally. So I'm really looking forward to the TV show and going to promote the movie. Hopefully I'll start to write again, and get things going.

WHAT KIND OF WRITING ARE YOU DOING?
I write short stories, mostly for myself. I had a couple published but they're not very good. My mother gives them a solid B minus. Hopefully I'll start moving again soon, because it's really hard when you have to start putting your face out there and you just don't want to. (LAUGHS) And I wonder why I'm called sad and odd!

[[NEWS]] Blair told to 'take an acid trip'

Selma Blair has revealed that her Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro recommended that she "take an acid trip".

Blair claimed that del Toro advised her to take the hallucinogenic drug because it would help her overcome her doubts and insecurities.

The actress told Arena: "You know what Guillermo thinks? That I should go to Amsterdam and take an acid trip and it would fix my head. I think he could be right, you know."

Blair confessed that she had yet to experiment with LSD but would be willing to in the future.

She explained: "If I was in the right frame of mind, in a pleasant, creative, chilled-out space, with just the right amount delivered by an Amsterdam technician that would be incredible."

Hellboy II: The Golden Army is released in UK cinemas on August 20.

Claro que ninguno de ellos le ha proporcionado tanta atención como el personaje de Liz, la agente paranormal novia de Hellboy. Pregunta: Cuéntanos un poco de qué va la película.
Selma: La película comienza conmigo, Liz, y Hellboy. Esta vez viven juntos; él es un demonio al que han criado para ser bueno, y yo soy una piroquinética. Con eso puedes hacerte una idea de lo extravagante, maravillosa y de alguna forma cómica que es esta película. Hay mucha gente que se ha sorprendido de todo el humor que hay en la película. Y sí, también hay amor, comedia y mitología. Se trata básicamente de un grupo de gente rara e inadaptada que trabaja para el gobierno para salvar al mundo de las fuerzas del mal que quieren destruirlo.

P: Cuéntanos algo de tu personaje.
S: Interpreto a Liz Sherman, que puede controlar el fuego. En el pasado causó mucha destrucción con sus poderes. De hecho acabó con su familia y con varios agentes del BPRD, Agencia de Investigación y Defensa Paranormal, donde trabajaba. Así que no quería usar más sus poderes, lo que le sumió en una gran tristeza. Pero ahora ha aceptado sus poderes y está con Hellboy. Se ha convertido en una mujer fuerte que rebosa confianza, y en el amor de la vida de Hellboy. Ella guarda un secreto, y aunque el público pueda imaginárselo, tiene que contárselo a Hellboy. Es una tía genial, viste de negro, siempre viste de negro.

P: ¿Es difícil ser la novia de Hellboy?
S: No, es muy fácil ser la novia de Hellboy. Bueno, él es un desastre y tiene 700 gatos, así que su apartamento huele mal, muy mal. pero no, es un tipo fácil de llevar. Es un bebé grande y eso está muy bien, es muy guapo.

P: ¿Te gustan los gatos?
S: En la vida real sí me gustan. No me gusta la suciedad que dejan.

P: ¿Cómo ha sido volver a trabajar con Guillermo del Toro?
S: Volver a trabajar con Guillermo ha sido lo mejor de todo. Todos nos sentimos muy afortunados, especialmente después del éxito de el Laberinto del Fauno. Estar en la siguiente película que ha hecho después de eso nos hizo sentir muy orgullosos. Podría haber hecho cualquier otra cosa pero volvió a elegirnos para seguir con Hellboy, nos sentimos muy afortunados. Es un tipo muy divertido. Se hace querer y es muy creativo, ha creado todos esos monstruos para la película. Para ser una película de efectos especiales no hay muchos, lo que es realmente increíble. Tenemos mucha suerte.

P: ¿Quiénes son tus héroes en la vida real?
S: Dios, no lo sé. Creo que toda la gente creativa, me encantan los artistas, me encantan los diseñadores. Ya sabes, no pienso en ellos como gente frívola, los diseñadores de vestuario cinematográfico y los diseñadores de moda, la gente que da forma a lo que la gente piensa creativamente. Me encantan los directores, me encanta Alfonso Cuarón y Guillermo del Toro y Roman Polansky, toda la gente que ha sido creativa desde que soy pequeña, y los fotógrafos, y tú, por ejemplo...

P: Si pudieras tener un superpoder en la vida real, ¿cuál elegirías?
S: Creo que elegiría el viejo tópico de volar. Volar. Las hadas voladoras son muy costosas ahora.

P: ¿Cómo ha evolucionado tu personaje desde la primera película?
S: Liz ha crecido mucho, antes era una mujer muy triste, era como una chiquilla. Ahora ha dejado que parte de esa chiquilla se vaya. Siempre ha sido un poco temperamental, eso forma parte de su carácter, pero ha madurado, es una mujer mucho más capaz y segura de sí misma.

P: ¿Algún proyecto para el futuro?
S: Ahora mismo estoy rodando una serie de televisión que se llama Kath & Kim y se emitirá en Octubre en Estados Unidos. Es una comedia.
