Selma Blair waltzed around modeling a super-glam black fur jacket; Vanessa Getty vamped in a vintage jumpsuit by Climaxx, and Max Boyer Glynn tipped her Trilby hat for all to see. At Tuesday evening’s opening bash for Downtown, Michael Kelter’s edgy new loft-style shop in San Francisco, it seemed every woman in attendance felt like a star.

Katie Traina is playing the role of Hollywood wife and soon heading for Rochester Hills, Michigan, where her husband Todd is producing a film starring Demi Moore. “Michigan is the new Hollywood,” said Traina. “All the big stars are filming in Michigan now.” That said, Blair noted that she will be shooting in New York this fall with director Todd Solondz.

Even actresses not in attendance haunted the event. Isha Abdullah, whose husband Asim owns Emanuel Ungaro, was wearing a white gown from a few seasons past.

“It was from the Lindsay Lohan collection,” she said. “Yes, the pastie collection. Ninety percent of it was actually very good.”

Nueva York, viernes, ocho de la noche, Madison Avenue. La ciudad donde nació la idea de la Fashion’s Night Out está en plena faena. Las tiendas permanecerán abiertas hasta tarde y en cada una habrá un evento especial para celebrar la noche de la moda. El evento global ideado por el equipo de Vogue USA y en concreto por su directora, Anna Wintour, tiene como propósito el ayudar a reactivar el consumo. Este año ha sido uno de los más nefastos en mucho tiempo para las firmas de moda que no han facturado lo que otras temporadas. En la Gran Manzana se palpa la crisis. Uno de los indicios de que las ventas no van bien es que muchas tiendas no han sacado aún las colecciones de invierno en su totalidad. Es más, todavía hay «corners» con ropa de verano de rebajas. Otros años, a estas alturas ya estarían vendiendo la ropa más invernal.

¿Logrará Anna Wintour relanzar la economía? Cosas más difíciles ha logrado la papisa de la moda. Si no lo logra, al menos lo habrá intentado… y hasta se ha puesto una camiseta (¡horror!) para la ocasión. La camiseta oficial de la Fashion’s Night Out con un dibujo abstracto de los rascacielos que caracterizan la ciudad de Nueva York. La directora más poderosa e influyente del «fashion system» recorrió la Quinta avenida de arriba a abajo, entrando en cada tienda y apoyando con su presencia una iniciativa que refuerza la industria de la moda como uno de los sectores importantes de la economía.

Naomi Campbell bailaba enfundada en mini pantalones de cuero por Madison Avenue, Tom Ford saludaba a clientes de Bergdorf Goodman donde también apareció Victoria Beckham, Jessica Alba miraba jerseys en Polo Ralph Lauren, las gemelas Olsen estaban de jurado en un concurso de karaoke en Barney’s, Helena Christensen y Selma Blair tomaban hot dogs en Stella McCartney y Oscar de la Renta movió el esqueleto al son de un grupo merengue en su propia boutique. Era doblar una esquina y darte de frente con una protagonista de la serie Gossip Girl (Jessica Szohr estaba ojeando bolsos en Prada).

En la recién inaugurada tienda de CH, Carolina Herrera recibía a sus invitados que podían hacerse un retrato digital por el famoso ilustrador de «Vanity Fair», Robert Risko, y si lo deseaban, plasmarlo sobre un bolso de lona para llevarse a casa. No faltó detalle. La gente paseaba con globos de Marni, tomando helados de cucurucho by Damiani. Y no faltaron las bromas con el nombre del evento. Las colas que se formaban fuera de las tiendas más «cool» eran tan largas que la ciudad parecía un parque de atracciones. Entre los que esperaban pacientemente para entrar a ver a Halle Berry en la tienda de Ralph Lauren se oía: «Se llama la Fashion’s Night Out porque ahí es donde estás la mayoría del tiempo, “Out”, esperando».

Para todos los gustos

Si el Upper Side es la zona más pija de tiendas, el Meatpacking es la más «trendy». La modelo y actriz del momento —predilecta de Karl Lagerfeld— Elisa Sednaoui puso la música en la tienda de Diane Von Furstenberg, Scoop y Catherine Malandrino ofrecían champán «non stop» y las clientas de Louboutin aguantaron con una sonrisa sobre sus tacones imposibles de 16 centímetros. En este marco «fashionista» es donde la firma de cosmética Maybelline New York montó una carpa en plena calle donde pinchaban Sean Lennon y su novia, la modelo Kemp Mulh. Había sesiones de maquillaje para todo el mundo, mientras las modelos Lisalla Montenegro, Jessica White y Erin Watson daban lecciones de cómo desfilar sobre la pasarela. El estilista americano Phillip Bloch, que estaba ahí, tenía claro que era el lugar para ver y ser visto y la zona más divertida para vivir la Fashion’s Night Out.

Se acabó el champán, los «shoppers» se fueron a sus casas, muchos, lamentablemente sin desenfundar la Visa, y cerraron las boutiques una a una. Esperemos que el evento anime a la gente a comprar, porque lo que de verdad necesitan las firmas y el sector es, como dice Phillip: «Fashion everyday», moda todos los días.

Sofia Vergara - whose show, Modern Family, won Best Comedy, grabbed a Palm Pre Plus while flirtatious comedic twosome Lauren Graham and Matthew Perry picked up Hasbro’s Scrabble Flash. Best Actress winner Edie Falco slipped on Dearfoams slippers and Glee’s Amber Riley cleaned up loot from The Body Shop. Dexter’s Julie Benz walked away with tons of hair products from Moroccanoil; her former co-star, John Lithgow, freshened up with Altoids while Dancing with the Star’s Brooke Burke grabbed a mommy-sized Vera Bradley bag.

At the Byron + Tracey Beauty Bar’s Calvin Klein Euphoria Lounge, Redken Colorist Tracey Cunningham darkened the locks of newlywed Hilary Duff, while over at HBO’s Luxury Lounge, Glee’s Harry Shum Jr. and Gossip Girl daddy Matthew Settle picked up some slick shades from Solstice Boutiques and engaged lovebirds Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez picked up Dearfoam slippers.

True Blood hotties Ryan Kwanten and Joe Mangienello showed off their DJ skills while rocking V-Moda headphones at the Montage August 27, as did Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky, her one-time rival Vienna Girardi and Gossip Girl’s Michelle Trachtenberg.

Kourtney Kardashian showed that she and baby daddy Scott Disick are a unit when both wandered into the Perfect Skin Spa at the Green Technology Emmy Suite. Although Scott didn’t score any Chilli Beans sunglasses (maybe because he’s such a jerk!) Kourtney picked out matching pairs for herself and baby Mason!

What’s a girl to do without bling? Lucky ladies Kristin Cavallari, Stephanie Pratt, Selma Blair and Garcelle Beauvais, as well as Twilight co-stars Christian Serratos and Boo Boo Stewart picked up some serious jewelry from Jacob & Co. at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood.

Last, but certainly not least, Kate Gosselin and Levi Johnston were among the lucky few who received Entertainment Tonight’s post-Emmys bash bag, filled with products from Neutrogena, Votre Vu Paris, Murad, Crabtree & Evelyn, Tokyo Milk, Brookstone travel gadgets, best sellers from Simon & Schuster, DVD’s from CBS Home Entertainment, gift cards to MyBlow LA and Dream Water.

At last night's (5 de agosto) premiere of Middle Men, Selma Blair felt the need to show us what we all have been missing.

The lovely actress wore a short black Stella McCartney Fall 2010 to wow the crowd with her style and legs.

Keeping the look simple, Selma paired the dress with black peep toed pumps with a pop of yellow on the heels. I love how the dress fits her body, yet has the sheer overlay to keep things fresh.
