[[NEWS]] Selma Blair Mistaken For Tom Cruise

Selma Blair has admitted that she was once mistaken for Tom Cruise.

The actress says she is trying to be more girlie to counteract her Tom Cruise-style hairstyle.

She reveals: “I had long hair for a while. Almost down to my waist but I wanted to go back to my Tom Cruise cut. I told my hairdresser to shave the back and leave the front long.

“Then someone thought I was Tom from the back. I guess I’d better wear heels.”

We're not seeing it - Tom is way more feminine than Selma.

[[KATH AND KIM]] Molly Shannon and Selma Blair are Kath & Kim

With casting finally complete, NBC can begin to think about how nice it would be to start work on Kath & Kim if they had any writers. Based on an Australian hit by the same name, the series focuses on the relationship problems between a mother (Molly Shannon as "Kath") and her daughter (Selma Blair as "Kim"). The series was originally picked up a year ago but languished due to casting concerns. It was deemed that the main characters had to be cast perfectly for this to work.

Meanwhile, Molly Shannon has stayed busy with a brilliant turn on Pushing Daisies while Selma Blair wowed geeks across the world as Liz Sherman in Hellboy, a role she will reprise in the sequel. Now they'll be able to come together and try to be the most delightfully dysfunctional mother-daughter duo since Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Hell, if it can get half the critical acclaim that Gilmore Girls did, Kath & Kim will be off to a great start.

I'll give them kudos for casting the beautiful and talented Blair opposite Shannon. And just never you mind that Shannon is 43 and Blair 35. Eight year olds get pregnant all the time in this country. All the time! Who are you to judge. Shame on you! Maybe they were raised in the Spears family.

[[NEWS-PROJECTS]] Blair Signs Up for 'Kath & Kim'?

HOLLYWOOD - Actress Selma Blair is in talks to play one of the lead roles in the U.S. version of Australian TV comedy Kath & Kim.

The Hellboy star is set to appear in the NBC adaptation of the hit dysfunctional-mother-and-daughter sitcom as Kim Craig, joining actress Molly Shannon, who has already been cast as her on-screen mom, Kath, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The planned stateside version of Kath & Kim follows the success of comedian duo Jane Turner and Gina Riley's series, which has attracted cameo roles from stars such as Kylie Minogue, Michael Buble, Rachel Griffiths and Little Britain star Matt Lucas in its four-season run.

[[PROJECTS]] Selma Blair Heads to TV for NBC's Kath and Kim

Selma Blair has been focusing on her film career for years, but now she's headed back to the small screen. After a long search, NBC has tapped her to play opposite Molly Shannon in the comedy Kath and Kim.

The show, based on an award-winning Australian series, focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between a mother, Kath (Shannon), and her daughter, Kim (Blair). It's been a high priority at NBC for a while: The network first picked up the pilot a year ago, and NBC entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman was talking it up way back at last summer's TCA, but it was reportedly tough to find the right actresses for the leads. The series comes from Silverman's production company, Reveille, which also adapted The Office and Ugly Betty for US television.

This is Blair's first regular TV role since her breakout appearance as Zoe on the WB's Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane back in 1999. Can you see her playing Shannon's daughter? To watch part of an original Kath and Kim episode, just read more

[[INTERVIEW]] Selma Blair's weight Hell

Selma Blair is on a strict diet after gaining 20 pounds while shooting her new movie.

The actress, who filmed 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army' in Hungary, resorted to eating comfort food to combat the cold weather and ended up looking like a "puffer fish".

She said: "I really binged on food in Budapest. It was so cold and we were shooting nights. The director says that in one half of the film I look boney and in the other half like a puffer fish. It's the most unprofessional thing I have ever done on a movie.

"So I gained 20 pounds and now I have to work out - and diet!"

Selma also insists she is proud of her "quirky" movie roles and has no desire to star in romantic comedies.

She said: "I get cast in character roles because I don't look like a leading lady. Maybe in Europe I'd be like Samantha Morton or Charlotte Gainsbourg. But I didn't choose my quirky career - it chose me.

"I don't have the face to constantly radiate leading lady energy. There is only one Reese Witherspoon and there is only one Julia Roberts. I don't fit into that mould. And do you know what else? I don't want to."

[[NEWS-PROJECTS]] 'Kath and Kim': Selma Blair Returns to Television

By Emily Christianson, Hollywood.com Staff

After traveling the world with her movie career Selma Blair decided to lay down some roots and return to television. We caught up with the starlet to talk about her new comedy Kath and Kim set to premiere on NBC this fall.

Hollywood.com: Kath and Kim is an adaptation of an Australian comedy. What can you tell us about the show?
SB:
I play Kim. I play the daughter. Molly Shannon plays the mother. And no, [our ages don't] have to make sense mathematically. The original version, Gina and Jane, they are the same age. It’s like a satire. They’re comedians. It doesn’t have to be accurate. We’re actresses. But, yeah. I play this very self-absorbed – that’s not very difficult – daughter. Who is – you know, obsessed with tabloids and celebrities, and all that stuff. And it takes place in Florida.

HW: How did you get involved in the show?
SB:
I know that they were having a lot of trouble finding their Kim. They just couldn’t find a girl that was right. I talked to Michelle Nader who was the producer and writer on the phone, I said “Listen I think it is really a girl that wants to be like Britney Spears and wants to be like this pop star and thinks she is this pop star, but she is too little, too late, too old, just doesn’t get it. We just talked about all these ideas and everything that’s wrong with American culture and just everything she thinks that is right. So I came home and I fought for it.

HW: Is Kim married?
SB:
Yeah. I’m married to a great actor, Mikey Day. And he works at the Best Buy. I’m a trophy wife, I think.

HW: So it’s typecasting, obviously.
SB:
Yeah, yeah, yeah [laughs]. I still wear my clothes from when I was 13. I think I’m a really big deal. I’m not. Everything’s too tight on me. You know, I think I’m gorgeous. I’m not.

HW: What’s the tone of the show?
SB:
Well, we just shot the pilot. It’s kind of like, shot almost documentary style. It’s kind of shot like The Office, or Arrested Development…it’s funny but a little dry, a little weird.

HW: Is it as satiric as the Australian one? Or is it more of a sitcom?
SB:
No, it’s satiric. I mean, it’s like the Australian one. It’s not sitcom-y…it’s not so in your face. But there’s a lot of love. The mother and daughter really love each other. They’re really close. But my character’s a bit demented, I have to say…Very whiny. And very loud. I’m very loud.

HW: What’s it like working with a comedy veteran like Molly Shannon?
SB:
She is so kind and warm and such a talented woman. I’m learning a lot from her. I haven’t done a lot of work like this. She’s such a comedian and I’m not that experienced with this type of thing so it is great. It is long hours, there’s a lot to do but I’m getting used to it. She makes it so much easier.

HW: Is comedy something that you feel very comfortable with?
SB:
I do. I really love comedy. I‘m not very good with sitcoms. I get really nervous in front of big crowds…I’m always a bit uncensored, and I say the wrong things too often. I’m just gonna get in trouble on a sitcom. Things are gonna end very badly. It’s best I just don’t put myself out there every week in that way. So this was perfect. This show, I had heard about it, and I really fought for it. I really had wanted to do it. They didn’t want me for it. No one thought I was right for it.

HW: Why did you fight for it?
SB:
They just had a different idea of what Kim was gonna be. I don’t know exactly, but I just don’t think I was anyone’s idea of it. And so I just really fought for it. I thought it was amazing writing. And I think [producer] Ben Silverman picks amazing projects that he brings over. You know, that he adapts. And I really wanted to be part of it. And there’s so few roles that are amazing women character-driven pieces. It’s really difficult to find. And I really wanted in on it. And I really – you know, I just wanted to grab that one. And that was kind of the first time that I really went after something. Because I just don’t usually have that kind of – that drive [laughs] It paid off. I was really happy to get it. I kind of made myself a little sloppier.

HW: Were you looking for something on television? Are you worried about being out of the movie game for nine months a year?
SB:
No, I’m okay. I’m okay with it. I was in Budapest shooting Hellboy II, and I kind of thought, “You know, I think I’ve had it with locations for a while.” You know? It was pretty lonely, you know, being away, even though I love everyone on the movie so much. But it’s like, “God. I’d like to kind of lay some roots down in one place for a while.” I’ve been traveling so much, I feel like such a gypsy, and kind of just wanted to get settled. So, I was kind of looking for a TV show.
